  Bell and Carlson Medalist Stocks

My Son Brian In Africa Using His Bell and Carlson Stocked Remington 700 Rifle The quality of Bell and Carlson stocks will make it very difficult to choose any other for your rifle. That is why we think it is important for you to take a little time to find out more about our product and our company.

Moisture, temperature, recoil energy and repeated firings are all big enemies of even the best wood stocks, and killers of accuracy. Bell and Carlson stocks, constructed using hybrid composite and proprietary manufacturing techniques called Fusion, can eliminate those problems.

These composites, including Aramid fibers, carbon fibers, graphite, epoxy gel coats and laminating resins; and polyurethane reinforcement with milled full aluminum bedding blocks are formed to provide a warm and solid feel rather than the hollow, toy like impression one gets from injection molded stocks often use the terms such as synthetic and sometimes even terms such as Rynite or Cyloloc. But their process is much different and produces a completely different stock much less expensive to manufacture.

All Bell & Carlson stocks, unless indicated otherwise, are designed to permit the customer to simply remove the barreled action from the original stock and bolt it into the Bell & Carlson stock. These "drop- in" stocks are designed to last a lifetime with no maintenance required. Because of variations in manufacturers' original equipment, it may be necessary to remove minimal amounts of material from the magazine area. Most factory barreled actions will bolt into a Bell & Carlson stock with the barrel free-floating ; however custom contoured barrels may need some fitting which can be accomplished with standard woodworking tools. Bell & Carlson does offer custom length of pull changes for an additional charge.

If your barrel is not free floated the best way I have found to free float barrel is to take a full sheet of 100-125 grit sandpaper and cut it in 1/4 sheets.  Then get a piece of computer paper and cut it just a little wider than the sandpaper.  With the rear action screw installed tight and the front action screw loose, place the sandpaper between the barrel and the barrel channel.  Then put the computer paper between the back of the sandpaper and the barrel so the edges of the sandpaper cannot scratch the barrel.

Grasp both ends of the sandpaper with your thumb and fingers so the sandpaper is lightly snug around bottom and sides of the barrel.  Move the sand paper forward and backward along the barrel channel from the recoil lug all the way to the front of the barrel channel.  As you are sanding, keep tightening up the front action screw a little at a time making it  just tight enough that you can still move the sandpaper back and forth.  When the front action screw is fully tight and the sandpaper is still able to be moved without binding you are done.

You will end up with a free floated barrel and a barrel channel that perfectly matches the taper of your barrel (because you are using it as a template) with the clearance between the barrel channel and the stock approximately 0.025" or the thickness of two business cards.

All Bell and Carlson custom stocks are available in any of the durable finishes listed on the following pages. Additionally, all stocks come with a premium recoil pad and sling swivel studs. A Pachmayr ® Decelerator® recoil pad is standard on all Medalist non adjustable stocks. No need to bed our stocks as they a full aluminum bedding chassis.

The weight of Bell & Carlson stocks vary due to the large variety of models and sizes. Most hunting models weigh about 2.5 to 3.25 pounds. One piece Medalist Varmint and Target models range from 3 to 4.5 pounds. 10/22 models are less than 2 pounds.

Bell and Carlson stocks are reliable over a temperature range of -50ºF to + 150ºF. All stocks are covered by a limited lifetime warranty. For full information on warranty go to:
